The municipality of Maruggio where the DDL Zan is 'in force'

Even if the Senate has rejected it, the DDL Zan can be applied in a Municipality of the Province of Taranto, thanks to its Administration.

Maruggio is a municipality in the province of Taranto in Apulia, and its Mayor (in office since 2019) Alfredo Longo issued Ordinance No. 40 on 9 November, which will protect the LGBT+ community, and not only, from all forms of racism and violence, in a sort of DDL Zan citizen. The announcement was made by Mayor Longo himself in a long post on his Facebook page.

I apologise for all the times that as a child I made fun of a disabled person, for all the times that as a boy I used the word ‘rich*ne’ as an insult, for all the times I smiled when I saw a man (or a woman) with a gender identity different from mine!”

He continued.

As a man of the institutions and a government official, I apologise to my son, the expression of my future, for being represented by people who, without even having the courage to vote openly, rejoice, after having sunk a rule that in other European countries has already been in force for years

What does Ordinance No 40 entail at this point?

“It is absolutely forbidden, throughout the municipal territory, to initiate actions of propaganda of ideas based on superiority or racial or technical hatred, incitement to crime and discriminatory and violent acts for racial, ethnic, religious reasons or based on sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability”.

Not only that, but any organisation, association, movement or group inciting acts of violence against minorities will be absolutely prohibited.
