Tom Daley is in favour of trans women athletes

British Olympic diver Tom Daley has come out in favour of transgender athletes: ”They must be able to share themselves for who they are”.

FINA’s (International Swimming Federation) decision regarding transgender athletes has sparked a series of controversies. According to the new rule, trans women athletes will only be allowed to take part in competitions in the women’s category ‘if they transitioned before the age of 12’.

In addition, FINA announced the establishment of a specific ‘open category’ for transgender athletes, although it is shrouded in mystery to this day.

As we said before, this decision has triggered numerous stances both for and against and during the British LGBT Awards, Tom Daley said:

According to too many, the participation of trans women athletes in the women’s category would mean that they would be at a disadvantage compared to their direct competitors. This, in a nutshell, is the problem with transgender female athletes. Hence, the ban on trans women athletes from competing in the women’s category.

However, according to some endocrinologists, there is no scientific evidence to prove the biological advantage of transgender female athletes over cisgender female athletes.
