In its first appearance, the LGBT+ Gay Party managed to win 10 councillors in 4 municipalities
It was by no means a foregone conclusion, but in the end, the LGBT+ Gay Party won 10 councillors in its first public and political appearance. A historic result as stated by the national spokesperson Fabrizio Marrazzo: “In our first participation in municipal elections, 10 councillors of our party were elected in four municipalities. This is a historic result for the LGBT+ community, which for the first time in history did not join the main parties, but decided to run alone“.
The elected councillors: 2 in Valnegra (Bergamo); 3 in Morterone (Lecco); 5 in Lemie and Gravere (Turin).
A valuable result that indicates a good start for the Gay Party Lgbt+ and Marrazzo continues in his post-voting analysis: “An interesting fact is that in small municipalities, where we managed to make our project known to all citizens, we had percentages of 12%, which is a good sign. The results of the small towns confirm that communication was lacking in the big cities, since we clashed with competitors with ‘big funding’; we clashed with the ‘censorship of the main media’ that preferred to give voice to other figures and parties that in many cases have also had lower results than ours; we clashed with homotransfobia that saw thousands of our posters torn down in the main cities, unlike those of other parties that were not touched.”
The next step, according to Marrazzo, will be to create a coalition to obtain the recognition of ‘Eugalitarian Marriage’, open to all political parties interested in the project. The intention is to evaluate and carry out joint actions, including a referendum for the approval of same-sex marriage.
