From 1 January next year, it will be possible to legally change gender without red tape
From 1 January 2022, Switzerland will follow the example of Ireland, Belgium, Portugal, and Norway when it comes to civil rights for LGBT+ people. From that date, citizens aged 16 and over who are not under legal guardianship will be able to change their gender and legal name by submitting a simple self-declaration, while in other cases the consent of the legal guardian will be required.

Last September, Switzerland legalized civil marriage and adoption for same-sex couples and now the new rules for gender reassignment. Other countries have decided to do away with sex reassignment surgery, sterilization and psychiatrists, for example, but at the same time have imposed additional conditions for changing sex. For example, in Spain, anyone over the age of 14 is allowed to legally change sex even without a medical diagnosis or hormone therapy.
