The Spanish Head of Government announces a stop to the decriminalization of prostitution and assisted reproduction for singles, lesbians, and transsexuals
Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, head of the Madrid government and national secretary of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), launched several proposals from the stage of his party’s congress that are sure to inflame the Spanish political debate. Decriminalizing – once again – prostitution, which feeds the underworld and ‘enslaves’ women. In Spain since 1995 the crime of prostitution has been decriminalised and according to a 2016 UN report, the prostitution industry in the Iberian country was estimated at around €3.7 billion.
The second piece of news is the one announced by Carolina Daris, Minister of Health. The Government of Madrid would like to extend the right to assisted fertilization to single, lesbian and transsexual women, since in certain Spanish regions, this procedure is only and exclusively guaranteed to heterosexual women.
These are two big changes for Spanish society and for women’s and LGBT+ rights.
