San Marino has appointed Paolo Rondelli, gay and an activist in the fight for LGBT civil rights, to the post of Captain Regent of the Republic of San Marino. This is the first gay Head of State elected in the world, in fact, until now we have only had LGBT+ ministers and prime ministers but never a Head of State.

The president of Arcigay Rimini, Marco Tonti, said: ” This is a historic fact because he is the first Head of State in the world homosexual and an activist for the rights of the LGBTI community. There are precedents between Premiers and Ministers, but it is the first time in the world for a Head of State”.
