Russia and the homophobic program "I'm not gay"

State homophobia in Russia extends also to reality shows

A new reality show with the openly homophobic title “I’m not gay” has appeared on Russian television. The episodes of this pseudo TV program will also be visible on the YouTube platform.

Let’s say that this is a cross between a game and a reality show. In which the participants – all strictly male – will have to demonstrate, through weekly tests, their heterosexuality. So the purpose of this homophobic reality show is to find out among the various contestants who are gay or who show non-heterosexual tendencies or virile behavior according to the rules of Russian state homophobia.

According to the website TvBlog.it – which broke the news first – the host would be a well-known Russian politician, a certain Vitaly Milonov, a member of the State Duma (Lower House of the Russian Assembly) and active in the battle against the Russian LGBTQ+ community. In fact, he is known – not only in his homeland – for his radical and homophobic ideas, such as confining gays and transsexuals in certain places with the aim of sterilizing them.

The United States. A group of friends and an association that cultivates ethnic discrimination, racial superiority, and the fight against any diversity as essential pillars of its doctrine. These are the main elements of this multi-faceted novel, at times raw and hard, far from pity and useless turns of phrase, in which extreme fanaticism leads a father to desire the evil of his homosexual son, to the point of acting personally for the annihilation of this inclination. Yet “REDEMPTION DAYS” is not a novel that takes away space for hope, the same feeling that will take possession of the protagonist’s page after page, directing them to arrive very differently from the departure, a goal in which ideas change, the true virtues emerge, evil and perversions are finally removed, to achieve so, in different ways, their individual redemption.
