Wolfsburg football team auction off shirts signed by players to support LGBTQIA cause
A very valuable support from the German football club Wolfsburg in favour of the campaign for the rights of LGBTQIA people.
An auction of rainbow shirts was held to raise funds for the LGBTQIA community, but not all players appreciated the initiative.
Striker Kevin Behrens refused to sign the rainbow jersey during an autograph session, telling club staff: “I’m not signing this fa*got stuff“.
The reaction immediately led to an internal investigation and a subsequent apology from the footballer, who said: “My off-the-cuff remarks were not acceptable. I apologise for them“.
The German club’s management said that Behrens’ behaviour did not reflect the club’s values, which promote diversity and tolerance. It has also been confirmed that the incident has been dealt with internally at the club and that the striker himself has signed the rainbow shirts after initially refusing to do so.
