Not all of Britain’s LGBTQ+ community feels represented by the monarchy and the Royal Family

The hype and celebrations for the coronation of King Charles III (a historic event, because the last coronation was 70 years ago with Queen Elizabeth II) are gradually waning. The UK is coming back to reality.

A reality of economic and energy crises, strikes in many sectors of social society, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish independence winds, and even the anti-monarchist movement has reared its head again.

In parts of the United Kingdom, including London, protests against the monarchy and Charles III had no shortage. The cost of the coronation-at a time of severe economic crisis-has also turned many citizens’ noses up. According to BBC estimates, the ceremony cost between £50 million and £100 million (between $63 million and $125 million).

What about the British LGBTQ+ community? It would not be very supportive of the monarchy, according to a poll taken among Gay Times readers, offered a few days before the coronation of King Charles III.
When asked whether they would tune in to watch King Charles III’s coronation ceremony, 87 percent of the 17,066 people who participated in the poll said they would do something else. In comparison, only 13 percent said they would watch the ceremony.

On the question: should the monarchy be abolished? 78% were in favor of abolition and only 22% were against it.

What about LGBTQ+ rights and the Royal Family? The data speak for themselves. 97% of survey participants said the Royal Family needs to make more efforts for the LGBTQ+ community and only 3% were satisfied with the members of the Royal Family.
