Who is Waylon Smithers’ new boyfriend? Let’s say that De Graaf is an internationally famous fashion designer, rich and judge on American’s Got Fabric who, after getting tired of surrounding himself with rich and famous men, decided to fall in love with a simple and normal man, far from the spotlight and fame.

Matt Selman, producer of The Simpsons, said of the engagement of one of the show’s most iconic characters: “At this point, his love life was a blank slate, something had to be done, as if he was wondering who his next partner would be.

The episode in question was written by Rob LaZebnik – the author of the coming out himself – and his son, Johnny, who is openly gay.

”I’m an inland American boy, so I don’t usually show my emotions, but I thought, what better way to tell my son that I love him than through an episode?”

The character of Michael De Graaf will be voiced by actor Victor Garber – known in Titanic as Thomas Andrew and in Alias as Jack Bristol – who is openly gay and said he was delighted with the writers’ choice.

”I haven’t played many homosexual characters, but every time I do, it reminds me of some feelings I had when I was a young actor and couldn’t be gay. This role was a reminder of how many things have changed and also how I have evolved”.
