Every year, from 16 to 23 September, Bisexual Awareness Week is celebrated around the world and all bisexual people are invited to take part.
The month of September in the LGBTQIA community is dedicated to celebrating bisexual people. A week – from 16 to 23 September – culminating on the last day with Bi Visibility Day. During this time it is possible to learn about and celebrate bisexuality, a still invisible part of the LGBTQIA community.
A bisexual person is attracted – both sexually and emotionally – to both sexes. And yet, despite being one of the most common sexual identities, bisexuality is stigmatised both in society and within the LGBTQIA community itself. And sadly, many bisexual people have to face and suffer from instances of biphobia.
And during Bisexual Awareness Week it is always a good idea to encourage everyone to share their stories and experiences in order to promote a better understanding of bisexuality. And there are many ways to get involved in the various celebrations throughout September.
Sharing your experiences with people you trust can be a powerful tool for help and change. You can also take part in events organised by LGBTQIA associations. These events can be organised online or in person.
It is also always a good idea to read about bisexuality and share this with family and friends so that they are informed.
And for advice and help in cases of biphobia and discrimination, it is always a good idea to contact the various LGBTQIA support associations.
