Scotland, sterile controversy over Jubilee cross in Glasgow’s Catholic cathedral

The Jubilee cross in St Andrew’s Cathedral in Glasgow has caused the most demanding Catholics to turn up their noses.

The Jubilee crucifix unveiled by Archbishop William Nolan at St Andrew’s Cathedral in Glasgow, Scotland, on 29 December 2024 has sparked controversy because of its modern and colourful design.

Many Catholics believe that the crucifix is inappropriate for a place of worship.

The crucifix of the scandal is characterised by the official colours of Jubilee 2025, but many consider it to be more like the symbol of the LGBTQIA movement than a traditional Catholic crucifix.

A very sterile and pointless controversy that the Archdiocese itself immediately tried to quash by stating that the crucifix was commissioned for Jubilee 2025 and will be displayed throughout the Jubilee year.

While Archbishop William Nolan invited all the faithful to be “pilgrims of hope” for the Jubilee Year.
