Sardinia’s third most populous municipality will have its first anti-discrimination desk
The certainty of the forthcoming opening in the Sardinian municipality of Quartu Sant’Elena of a counter against sexual discrimination and gender identity arrived on 9 November last with the publication of the Unar.
As reported by the website Casteddu Online.it, the Arc Onlus project – with the participation of the municipal administration – came fifth in the special ranking of the Department for Equal Opportunities of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, obtaining funding of 100 thousand euros.

The municipal administration of the Municipality of Quartu Sant’Elena had joined the initiative with a resolution dated 27 April 2021 – number 99 – for a project of an inter-institutional support network against discrimination motivated by sexual orientation and gender identity. The proposal envisaged the creation of an Anti-Discrimination Coordination Centre at the historic ARC headquarters, which has always been committed to the defence of LGBT+ civil rights, with local branches in the participating administrations.

We are delighted with the outcome of the call for proposals, which rewards an initiative in which we immediately believed, also because it is fully in line with the programme of our Administration. Even today, there are many LGBT people who face a condition of fragility due to their estrangement from their families because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The same people often face subsequent difficulties in finding a house to live in and a job to support themselves. There is much to be done in terms of social inclusion and culture to ensure that everyone can fully enjoy their civil and citizenship rights. Now, we will start the recruitment phase, and then we will think about the physical location of the counter. Finally, the results of the work carried out will be monitored and evaluated
Cinzia Carta, Councillor for Education with responsibility for Gender Policies and the Defence of LGBT+ Rights.
