Norfolk, a museum bids farewell to the LGBTQIA History Trail

The LGBTQIA History Trail has lost a museum.

In Norfolk (UK), the True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum in King’s Lynn has decided to withdraw from the Queer Stories of Lynn project due to “bad publicity“.

In fact, according to the press, participation in the project has led to many complaints from the museum’s shareholders and volunteers.

The initiative consists of a trail telling stories in various locations around the Norfolk city, created by young people aged between 16 and 30, and has received various levels of funding from the Arts Council and Historic England.

The funding was criticised by Neil Record (former director of National Trust pressure group Restore Trust): “Highly inappropriate“.

While Mrs Bavin (True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum) said: “We had agreed in principle to a temporary exhibition, but the content should have been checked beforehand. True’s Yard is a museum and an accredited charity and we have to abide by the Museums Association’s code of ethics and we thought that was made clear. After an exchange of emails, Collusion have decided to continue with another project partner. We wish them well.”
