LGBTQIA Census in Australia from 2026

LGBTQIA Census in Australia from 2026

The Labor government has announced the LGBTQIA census from 2026, which will survey the sexual orientation of the entire Australian population.

The 2026 census will be a first, which could pave the way for other nations, as the government has decided that it will include all citizens from the age of 16.

Unfortunately, it should have been implemented last year, but the work of adapting the platforms has caused the postponement to 2026.

The next census of the LGBTQIA population, as explained by Anna Brown, director of the Equality Association, will serve both to “gather vital data on some of the most vulnerable populations” and to “combat discrimination and promote acceptance of the LGBTQIA community“.

A decision that has sparked barricades and promises to fight the 2026 Census on the grounds that it could only be a precursor to greater Big Brother control of the population by the Australian government.
