Italy, Arcigay headquarters in Catania defaced with black paint: an attack on the LGBTQIA+ community

Right-wing extremist vandalism against Arcigay in Catania

During the night of 10-11 March, the Arcigay headquarters in Catania (Sicily) was the target of a despicable act of vandalism of a fascist nature.

The rainbow shutters of the headquarters were defaced with black paint and inscriptions praising fascism: “Long live the Duce” and “The year 103 was fascist”.

It was an episode that deeply shocked and outraged the local and national community. Arci described the attack as “very serious and cowardly” and said that the vandalism of the Arcigay headquarters was a direct attack on all people who believe in the values of equality, civil rights and democracy.

Vera Narra (President of the Catania branch of Arcigay): “We are stronger than any hate speech. We call on citizens to remain united against all forms of hatred and not to allow fascism to return to our streets”.

A clear sign of the rise of hatred against the LGBTQIA community.

The fight against hatred and intolerance is a war that concerns everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. As Arci stated: “We are all under the same rainbow”.
