President Viktor Orban loses his standard-bearer of ultra-homophobic Catholicism, the priest Peter Gergo Bese
In the Hungarian Catholic Church, Peter Gergo Bese has been a prominent face for some time – not only as President Viktor Orban’s favourite priest, but also for his indiscriminate attacks on the LGBTQIA community on radio and television.
A few days ago he came back into the limelight, not because of his homotransphobic attacks, but because he was investigated by the Archbishop of Kalocsa-Kecskemet on the orders of the Vatican. And for what reason?
All because the former priest Peter Gergo Bese was recognised in several videos of gay orgies published online. And the Hungarian magazine Valasz Online clearly speaks of a double life of Peter Gergo Bese. During the day he led anti-LGBTQIA crusades and at night he enjoyed “playing” with other men.
During the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the former priest Bese harshly criticised the presence of drag queens: ”We can be the guardians of normality in the Carpathian Basin and we can find allied peoples who can say that we do not need them, that we believe in the raison d’être of God’s pillars, the home and the family”.
Here is the official statement from the office of the Archbishop of Kalocsa-Kecskemét on the Bese case: ”According to the instructions of Archbishop Balázs Bábel of Kalocsa-Kecskemét, I would like to inform you that Gergő Péter Bese has been suspended from his priestly ministry with immediate effect from 6 September 2024”.
