Prime Minister Orbán continues his anti-LGBTQIA crusade
The next Budapest Pride will have to be held indoors, on the orders of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, in order to “protect children“.
The decision was announced by Gergely Gulyás, the government’s chief of cabinet, and has sparked a wave of protests in Hungary and abroad.
The march for LGBTQIA pride, equality and civil rights is scheduled for 28 June and, as every year, will take place on Andrássy Avenue, one of the main streets in the centre of Budapest.
The entire Hungarian LGBTQIA community has responded strongly to Orbán’s provocation, stating that Budapest Pride is a peaceful event, open to all families and free of risks, especially for children. The organisers have stated that they will continue to fight for the civil rights of Hungary’s LGBTQIA community. Despite the ban on outdoor demonstrations, Budapest Pride will still take to the streets of the Hungarian capital.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s decision to force Budapest Pride indoors is another serious setback for civil rights in Hungary.
An increasingly homophobic country.
