Hungary, ban on minors at World Press Photo for featuring LGBTQ photos

In Budapest, ban on minors under 18 at one of the most important and popular photojournalism competitions

A law that prohibits in public situations frequented by minors from facing LGBTQ canvases made the ban on minors under the age of 18 from entering the World Press Photo exhibition possible.

Set up at the Hungarian National Museum in Budapest, among the various works on display are works by Filipina photojournalist Hannah Reyes Morales in which older people from the LGBTQ community are portrayed, some of them wearing makeup and drag outfits.

It triggered the ban after a report by the far-right ‘Movement For Our Homeland‘ MP Dora Duro. And according to the Hungarian government, the photos of Hannan Reyes Morales openly violate the Law Against Dissemination of Homosexual Subjects in Situations Where Minors Are Present.
