Georgia, anti-European party wins, LGBTQIA people flee

A situation that, even before the 26 October elections, has triggered an exodus of LGBTQIA people from Georgia

In Georgia, identities and orientations that are considered non-conforming are treated as a threat to national security, and with the victory of Georgian Dream, the situation for the LGBTQIA community will become increasingly dangerous.

And so many LGBTQIA people have taken the drastic decision to leave their country and seek refuge abroad.

As Evan (38 years old), who decided to leave Georgia, says: “I never thought I would have to leave the country so suddenly”. An escape to avoid a mental breakdown and to save his life.

He is one of many who are fleeing Georgia, partly because it is no longer safe to live there.
