“I’m living proof that you can be gay even in sports. You can be whatever you want.”
Isaac Humphries, 2.13 meters for 116 kg, is now a Melbourne United player and has publicly come out to CNN.

Colorado, a massacre at LGBTQ+ club
A coming out of an Australian basketball player saved his life. In fact, as he himself recounted in 2020, he had thought of ending it all.
“Everything had become so dark that I absolutely thought about coming out of this world. I didn’t want to exist like this. I didn’t think I could exist like this in my basketball world.”
Qatar 2022 and the Rainbow anti-LGBTQ+ flag
A sport that saved his life, but he described it as a homophobic environment.
“It’s part of the locker room culture. It’s not done intentionally to hurt anybody. Unfortunately, in that room, in our culture, they don’t expect to have gay people around them, and they don’t know the impact it can have on people who are undeclared.”
Best wishes to Isaac in his new life.
