California moves to protect transgender people before Donald Trump arrives

The tycoon’s second term in the White House will make life hell for the LGBTQIA community

Donald Trump will be sworn in as President of the United States of America on 20 January, beginning his second term in the White House, and for the LGBTQIA community it will be four years of struggle.

California has decided to take measures to protect the privacy of transgender people, thanks to SB 59 (Transgender Privacy Act) by Senator Scott Wiener, which would make all court documents related to gender transition confidential.

This bill was introduced after an increase in cases of harassment and violence against transgender and non-binary people, and after the new occupant of the White House could fuel transphobia.

The legislation to protect transgender people has been welcomed by LGBTQIA rights groups, who see it as a crucial step in protecting a vulnerable community.
