British Olympic diving champion Daniel Goodfellow announces his retirement

After Tom Daley’s farewell, here’s Daniel Goodfellow’s

British Olympic bronze medallist Daniel Goodfellow, 28, has announced his retirement after a career which saw him achieve the rare double of winning the platform and springboard at a number of major international events.

Daniel Goodfellow won silver in the 10m platform synchronised event at the 2016 European Championships in London with fellow British legend Tom Daley, and went on to win bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio that same year.

It never feels like it’s going to end when you’re living it, but after more than two decades of training and competing, it feels like the right time to close this chapter and start something new.

The decision to leave the diving platform was also prompted by the fact that the next Commonwealth Games, to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2026, have dropped the diving category. And so the decision to say goodbye in advance.

To my coaches, family, friends and everyone else who has helped me along the way, my successes are as much yours as mine, none of them were possible without you“.
