The UK’s national airline will replace the welcome on board with neutral terms
The British company has advised its pilots and crew to change the welcome on board formula, replacing ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ with neutral terms and all to ‘Ensure all our customers feel welcome when travelling with us in order to celebrate diversity and inclusion’.
British Airways: “We celebrate diversity and inclusion and are committed to ensuring that all our customers feel welcome when they travel with us”.
British Airways is the latest airline to make this decision, following Lufthansa, EasyJet, and Air Canada in 2019. A year earlier, Qantas Airways – Australia’s national airline – launched the ‘Spirit of Inclusion’ campaign, in which its staff were encouraged to avoid using gendered terms.
