If Meta has scrapped DEI programmes, Apple is going against the grain.
The election of Donald Trump to the White House has put many technology companies under pressure to review their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies.
The parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp (Meta) has decided to indulge the new occupant of the White House by scrapping all DEI programmes within the company. On the contrary, Apple recently rejected a proposal by the National Center for Public Policy Research (a conservative think tank) to eliminate DEI programmes.
According to the proposal, DEI programmes could have exposed the company to expensive lawsuits. Despite the veiled threats, Apple called the proposal “unnecessary” and reiterated its commitment to an inclusive culture.
Apple’s decision not to bow to the White House’s new course has been welcomed by activists and the company’s own employees, who see it as an important step towards greater inclusivity and equality in the workplace.
