Born in a male body, but still female, the twins decided to take the plunge into their new lives together.
On their eighteenth birthday, Giulio and Guido decided to call themselves Giulia and Gaia, and as they told surgeon Andrea Cocci: ”We were born in male bodies but we both felt female from the time we can remember.
And now, at the age of 23, the final step, the surgical sex change. The operation will be carried out at the Careggi hospital in Florence by the team led by Marco Carini, which includes surgeon Andrea Cocci. It will be a complicated operation, because of the form of coagulopathy from which the two girls suffer.
Giulia and Gaia began their transition process as required by Italian law, from the age of 18 with hormone therapies, then a psychological process and after the judge gave the go-ahead they were put on the waiting list for surgery.
It is a day to celebrate. We made a very free choice, our family supported us in our project, then, being twins, we have always helped each other and made each other strong.
